Laos is bordered by Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, China and Myanmar (Burma). Rivers and mountains dominate the country's topography. The largest river, the Mekong (Nam Khong), runs the entire length of the country, providing fertile flood plains for agriculture and forming the country's border with Thailand. It is also Laos' main transportation artery.
Laos has three distinct seasons, all with their advantages and disadvantages.
The best time to visit overall is the cool season, between November and
February. By November, the rains are usually over, all rivers are navigable and
roads are passable.
Laos is not too well known among tourists, but this is one of the attractions of this quiet country.
Vientiane, capital of Laos, has a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. Many temples are home to numerours monks, all of them friendly and eager to learn.
Luang Phabang, Laos' old royal capital, is a UNESCO world heritage site and has some of the most beautiful temples in the world.
